Soaps, in general, are made to kill those pesky germs that spread all the yuck, and we know this. But let’s address the big elephant in the room. How exactly are they working toward stopping Coronavirus and any other virus for that matter? Equally, as more important how do we avoid using harsh chemicals on our skin, yet still kill bacteria and germs that rapidly spread?
Any type of soap is typically better than sanitizer because it targets the bacteria in a multi-level way. Hand sanitizer can remove the germs from your hand, but it doesn’t fully destroy it and CONTINUE to destroy it from all angles like soap does. Soap essentially pulls the bacteria apart, putting an end to it completely. This is true for any type of soap including both liquid and bar soap forms.
At this point, you’ve likely heard it a million times, but you DO need to wash for at least 20 seconds and be thorough. If you don’t take your time to do it right, you're not allowing the soap to truly do its job.
In regards to using natural soap and being gentle on the skin, YES it works just as well as a chemical soap. As long as you're taking the time to dedicate those 20 seconds to hand-washing, then you are good to go. What’s great about using natural soaps, is that you don’t need to worry about damaging, stripping or cracking your skin which is often why people back off on washing.
