You’ve heard about exfoliating your skin and the many, many benefits it has for your complexion. But guys, it is CRAZY how many people seem to skip over this step completely! It’s a shame because by doing this, you aren’t allowing the OTHER products you purchase to fully absorb into your skin and do their job. (Don’t waste your money friends!)
Exfoliating will not break the bank or take up too much of your time, meaning there is no reason to skip it. Let’s reveal your best skin, by first removing the dead layer that currently hides it.
Now that you understand its importance, all you need is your skin type to move forward. (Don’t know? Click here) Oily, Dry, Combination and Sensitive Skin Owners… Here is your catered game plan that’s both simple and effective.
Oily Skin
Take it easy. Trust us, we know how frustrating it can be to have slick, oily skin that is basically begging for a deep scrub. But don’t let your skin fool you. Exfoliating too often can make matters worse and cause an increase in oil production, which is the opposite of what we’re headed for here. 2-3 times a week is more than enough to obtain the benefits.
Dry Skin
The natural reaction to dry, flaky skin would be to scrub, scrub and scrub some more. Thus getting rid of the dry skin right? Not necessarily. It’s easy to take it too far and cause damage to the skin. Use the right, gentle product. Harsh chemical skincare products can damage your skin faster than the other skin types. Remember, your skin is very delicate. Be sure to give it some TLC by exfoliating a couple times of week with a product like this, one that combines gentle exfoliation and deep moisture all in one.
Combination/Normal Skin
2-3 Times a week is ideal, as long as there’s nothing crazy going on. Breakouts or other miscellaneous issues can and should cause a change in your routine. If you suffer from acne, just skip grainy and tough products all together until things calm down a bit as it could make matters worse by opening the pores up more. Keep it simple with washcloths, scrubs or dry brushes and be sure to listen to what your skin is telling you prior to exfoliation.
Sensitive Skin
The most complex of all skin types some might say. Sensitive Skin can’t have too much of one thing or too little of another and often throws tantrums without any warning. Play it safe. You need to exfoliate yes, but even more important is to pay attention to how your skin reacts AFTER exfoliation. Be careful of the type of exfoliant you are using and do spot tests when introducing any new products. Simple ingredient lists mean your skin will be more likely to react well to it. If your skin feels like it can handle exfoliation twice a week, great! If not, then it’s totally okay to do less.
When it comes to exfoliation, remember the less is more thought process in most cases. Just know that it truly can be a game changer to your routine if you aren’t doing it at all, or doing it incorrectly.
